Yeah, there's already some regulation put in place with regards to real estate and business ownership. Not sure about the specifics, just that you had to have a certain amount of capital upfront to start a business, and that you had to hire native Japanese. A lot of people, the Chinese in particular, would just hire their relatives and have a facade of a business.

I think a lot of issues could be prevented if they withhold giving voting rights to non-natives, and are careful with land ownership.

I've been trying to do exactly that for the last 10 years OP, starting with English teaching and then moving on to something else after finishing university. The result? Being rejected from EVERY SINGLE ENGLISH TEACHING JOB/EIKAIWA Japan has, and also being rejected from any Japanese or Japan-adjacent job stateside (with the idea that I'd work up enough and get transferred). And so, I've been stuck in a warehouse for the last 8 years surrounded by the laziest, self-serving, barely literate degenerates you'd ever have the misfortune of meeting (let alone working with). They ALL mock me for my interest in Japan and Japanese culture, regular coworker and supervisor alike. What's worse, is that I see Japan today suffering from an influx of third-worlders coming in and absolutely wrecking the country, with nuisance-streamers from the U.S. and such treating Japan like their own personal adult amusement park/gym.

YES I was really trying! All the time. I failed N2 three times and N3 four times, but I've been really putting in the work. Sou matome, Shin kanzen, yet nothing truly 'sticks' as easily when you're working 6 days a week in a warehouse. But, I'm still trying; I would take it this year, but it was cancelled in the only place closest to me for the 2nd time (it was also last year), and I don't get any vacation days (so I can't fly to another state). Still though, you have people who have never even heard of the JLPT living and working in Japan, so what gives?!

Japan's currency and wages suck so makes sense. Fukuoka is also losing population every year so makes sense that apartments get cheaper. Less people want them.
