Shonen is by FAR the best "genre" of anime/manga, and I'm tired of midwits pretending their "mature" niche stories (which aren't actually niche) are somehow better

That's why you shouldn't say something is better than the other, you just say "I like x more". For example, I find shonen to be extremely obnoxious and dumb, and prefer other genres like comedy and slice of life much more

Shonen is good as a genre. People's issue with it is with the FANS of shonen, and specifically with surface-level anime fans who have ONLY consumed shonen series like One Piece, Naruto, and others that aired on American TV. They tend to the the most touristy and have the worst opinions on anime.
That said, shonen series can be really good, and you don't have to like one genre exclusively.

is Berserk a shonen? you're right if so. I loved Naruto and DBZ when I was a kid but now I've ascended to more teenaged normiecore so I love berserk and eva.
