I never watched this show, apparently it was very formative for a large number or early zoomers and late millenials. Same for the entirety of the disney channel

It was the start of the "XD random is funny" 2011 internet sentiment. It was much better than the irony poisoning of nowadays

In the late 2000s when I was in highschool I day-dreamed about being an alien sleeper agent inspired in large part by Invader Zim. I could also draw Gir in the green dog costume from memory and I did so every opportunity I got. If I wasn't retarded I could have used my skills to pull alt chicks.

It was a weird quirky show for the time, became popular with the Hot Topic crowd and that's all there is to it.
I enjoyed it but the show was retarded overall duh.

This was by far my favorite show on television as a kid. The grimy, cynical reality it presented felt authentic. It didn't feel like a typical kids show that tried to create a false escapist utopia for its viewers. Everything was ugly and dingy. The humor was dark and absurd. The episodes still hold up to this day.

me and my friends also did this, we used to try and draw him with different outfits on until one day one of us made "mariachi gir" and i called it stupid and he got really upset, amongst my most awkward moments lmao

I was watching it in early 2000s. It was weird and hilarious.

I watched it when it came out and the majority of the humour was lolsorandumb type humour, which at the time the show came out wasn't really a big thing. It was also kind of dark in a way that was unusual for a kids show in that it was quite open about people in show being bad/stupid people. It wouldn't hold up for me now other than for nostalgia if I rewatched it though. It did lead to a wave of goth kids trying to emulate some of the characters which was really fucking annoying in school.

Zim wasn't on the Disney channel but they did have some good cartoons back then, my favourite being The Weekenders and then runners up being Recess and Lloyd in Space.

Invader Zim ended airing in 2002 and the randomfunny phase of Internet humor was at its peak in the mid 2000's. 2011 is when ironic shitposting took over. You have wrong memories or didn't even experience that time.

In which case fair enough. I didn't really like the cartoon programming on Nick anyway, I was very firmly in the CN camp for years until I got a little bit older and started watching some of the cartoons on Disney channel and Fox Kids. Also by that time anime was becoming mainstream popular so I started watching that when I was approaching my teens and after that broadband internet became widespread and I started watching fansubbed anime. At this point my life was basically over.

I am still waiting for a TV anime to be as well animated as Medabots was. Maybe Ping Pong and Space Dandy came the closest.

It was a fun show that was different at the time. Sometimes a bit too lolsorandumb, but still good.
