Not particularly. It's not that they are treated badly, but usually people don't care. Maybe you will hear about it at the end of the school year if they win the city championship or something. But there isn't that whole culture of cheerleaders, big matches, famous athletes etc.
Not to mention, most high school here are not big enough to have some very professional football teams anyway. Biggest school here are 1000 people and that's like the 3 - 4 biggest in the country, most others are much smaller

I've always found life to be easier by myself. When I was in 6th grade my teacher had our class reorganize into different tables and I ended up completely alone at one table while everyone else sat at the others. The teacher made people move to sit at my table but I honestly wished that he hadn't. I preferred being alone. In 9th grade going to a new school I sat alone at lunch on the first day and some girls walked up to me to invite me to sit with them and I blew them off and pretended to go get water to avoid them.

I've always liked being alone I guess.
