the US economy is measurably less meritocratic (in terms of correlation between income and IQ among other things) for younger generations today than it was for generations past. boomers got a lot more second chances and could reinvent themselves by just showing up, but the modern economy has already put you exactly where it thinks you belong.

Yeah I work in tech and the entry level jobs are fucking easy, but if your parents don't have a friend in management you are never getting that entry level job. Doesn't matter if you're smart or talented, at least at this company.
