I went to school in the southern US and yes, we never learned about whites being oppressed except by other whites, and only in a wartime scenario.
We DID however cover the African slave trade and holocaust yearly until high school, then it was usually just the holocaust that was mentioned with any regularity.

My school covered holocaust once while I was in 8th grade and the following year (I repeated because I was a delinquent) we didn't even do it. I think the african slave trade was just a small part of us history class.
