If you're a free normal citizen of the US in your own house, are you free to leave your house if you want to at any point, yes? Even for extended periods of time, weeks? Yes obviously, you can go on vacation and usually don't have to fear getting into legal trouble for that.
But if, lets say, you're the single mother of a 1 year old toddler. If you leave your toddler alone in the apartment unattended and simply leave for a 1 week vacation without making any arrangements, you get arrested for child neglect. You are not allowed to do that.
I think that is reasonable. If you have a child, you have a responsibility towards that child.
Even if you cannot handle that responsibility, you're on a psychotic break and suicidal or some shit, you STILL have to have the power to at least call the cops and/or CPS to inform them that there's a toddler that you simply cannot take care of right now.
I don't care whatever reason you might have had even it is a very good reason, and neither will the judge i think, if you let that toddler die of starvation alone in that apartment, you're going to jail 100%.
So the single mother of the 1 year old toddler is actually NOT free to leave her house at whatever times she desires for however long she desires. At least not without making arrangements that ensure the wellbeing of the child first.
Is that taking away her freedoms? Should we rather allow her to let the toddler starve if push comes to shove?
I don't think so
Pregnancy is the same
Adoption exists, you do not have to take care of the baby in the long run if you don't want to, It wouldn't be good to force you anyways, but there's a living child inside you right now, and if you don't wanna be pregnant right now, I'm sorry but we are NOT just gonna kill that baby because its inconvenient to you. We will seperate you once we are medically able to do so without killing the child, but for now you just have to wait. Just like with the CPS workers and the 1yo toddler
