I wonder how many potential teenagers in the mid-late 2000s fell victim to the introduction of achievements and trophies in vidya. I often think of the NEETs systems like the Xbox 360 and PS3 created. Those consoles were clearly designed to keep people young people addicted to gaming. Investing thousands of hours of time on some specific task just to get all the trophies unlocked was somehow rewarding to them.

At the end of the day achievement scores and platinum trophy counts are just stats that most people don't care about. There is no real reward. Xbox and PlayStation are full of shovelware games these days that require no real tangible effort to unlock them. I see people on forums moaning about broken achievements and getting anxiety when some online multiplayer achievements no longer unlock. I feel like gaming has ruined men's potential. No pussy, just vidya sucking them back in all the time.

Yeah that always wound me up...using some very specific car. Granted you had to in the old games but there was a good reason. I always remember the mission chasing the fire truck early on in GTA5...bored the shit out of me. Just people shouting over and over until you finally get to the scripted point where the dude can safely drop down into the car. San Andreas had this sort of mission towards the end but it felt gripping and climatic. It didn't feel like a chore at all to finish San Andreas.
