does anyone else feel it? the internet used to be kinda quiet like 4-5 years ago.
these days there is just so much VOLUME of posting EVERYWHERE.
the hasan shock collar thing illuminated this for me. reddit threads with 700+ comments under an hour. And then another. And another. tiktoks casually getting 1 MILLION likes of shit you've never even heard of.
the dead internet theory is completely wrong.

They are bots. Especially with consumer grade ai they can now have bots that are cheaper and more widely accessable.
Political twitter for example uses a combination of ai videos to trick people into thinks there is blood on the streets, and bots egging on the echocave. Most of these people dont even exist.

The internet feels like a ghost town. Bots flooding ai generated memes and fake responses is the best tell. Forums are dead. Outside of here you can't find any sort of engagement any more. It's very likely many internet users go a whole day without interacting with a single human post, poster, or content. I compare it to a fish tank. 100 gallons and 20 fish. Suddenly increase the tank to a billion gallons and keep the same 20 fish but toss a USB stick with millions of fake fish on it in there. Same 20 fish, tank got bigger, but most of the chill spots were destroyed by the addition. The effect is that the internet shrank even though infrastructure got bigger.
