People who in general take up martial arts because it's useful in a fight and to be save are putting a lot of time into very ineffective remedies. It's not going to make one beat multiple people and most accidental deaths are traffic related. If you want to improve your safety it's better to learn how to avoid danger.

Many people just carry a knife or a gun anyway to do this, are you really going to fight your way out of that with your martial arts skills?

That said, martial arts can also just be fun, which is a much better investment of time.

People who do things "in order to be safe" in general have the dumbest strategies. Also, people who have it in their mind that one is more likely to be sexually assaulted by a stranger. The people one has the biggest chance of being sexually molested by are one's family, teachers, and other people one is close to.
