To answer the question without the stupid ass non meme debate, people in general don't understand how dangerous and far roaming bears are. Because we don't have a tiny version of a species in the same family as a pet people don't associate Bears with great intelligence. In fact even advice from park rangers and others are flawed and wrong. You can't fool a bear into "playing dead". Bears that observe humans after awhile know they are just standing up and their coat isn't their real mass. Bears don't attack humans and consume regularly them because humans taste bad and are bad sources of calories for the effort. If you contextualize it to people like that, that the Bear is a smart animal that just doesn't bother to kill you because it's not interested would lead to mass hunting like wolves.

to give this more perspective, I'd equate if to the difference between a large cat species(aside from cheetahs) and Bears. Large cats are obligate predators and even more territorial than bears. People don't encounter them in a relaxed manner like they do Bears. There is a flawed perception and illusion of control with bears. A lot of people get it, a lot don't. I can tell you don't engage in any door activities. The only times bear engages in people if you run away which triggers their instinct to chase (it signifies they're prey), you attack them, or you are near a mama and her cub.
