I'm moderately certain it's just a larp - I think she got some fame and notoriety (the MILK arrest), decided she need an audience to play to (thirsty young racists) and played into it. Especially with the race angle.
From there it's basically just her leveraging that to get more gibs. I think if she thought she could make more on of (without becoming a complete fuckpig)she probably would.
