goth culture was erased and commodified in the late 90s/early 2000s along with punk, rap, gamers, stoners, faggots, etc - pretty much any alternative identity had their communities atomised & replaced with merchandise
the distinct value systems and behaviours that each used to boast have been stripped away by american/western monoculture and reduced to clothes and a vibe, where the identity is assumed by the individual rather than arrived at by the community
these groups were endlessly lambasted for exclusionary practices like expecting someone joining a scene based around a hobby to participate in that hobby, the oldheads sold out, died or retreated to their walled gardens, and what's left is a bunch of faggots who think this is the best it's ever been
I would argue this is inevitable in the absence of extreme gatekeeping but to a greater or lesser extent all these communities tried that
your revulsion and contempt is justified, but the fault doesn't lie with goth chicks - they're just victims of America like the rest of us
