well, I'm not sure if it's the case for everyone, but for me emulating kinda robs it of the nostalgia and sweet memories. I mean, most of us play old games not just because they're really good but also because it feels great to recreate the times when you'd actually play those games on a tv. so when you not only emulate it but also play it on a computer screen instead of a tv it ruins the immersion and the atmosphere for me. maybe it's the case for most people

no sweaty it does not work like that
the ps1 is used as an io subsustem on ps2 and once you boot some software like freemcboot it is impossible to use for gaymin
you'd need to have a modchip in your console for that

yah I do remember reading that they fit an entire ps1 cpu as an additional tiny io system into the ps2 and that was how the ps2 natively emulated its games.
but honestly I had no idea freemcboot wouldn't solve that issue because well I'm bad with tech and I saw all those menu options for emulating the snes and I thought the same applied to the ps1. also I thought it'd be able to do that because it removed the region lock from polystation too games

I have PS1 and love it. It lives right next to a Raspberry Pi that can emulate any PS1 game I want, but I love the noises it makes and the Raspberry Pi does not do that...
You could also get a PS2 but they tend to be less reliable becasue they have more moving parts.
