Magnets don't work. You need an actual heat engine in order to use magnets as an intermediary.
That said, you can use magnets to CAPTURE work, by storing it as electricity.

Magnetic foece is just electric force. Look up any magnetic field source like electron beam in vacuum. Now, jump in it's reference frame. There is no magnetic field any more, only electrical. Thus the magnetic part comes from transformation of the force by Lorentz basis.
