Science communication is notoriously trash, so people see some bullshit like "Science says there's infinity universes" and morons think this shit is not only consensus, but some sort of dogma.
The article may go into how speculative these sorts of claims are but nobody actually reads that shit. So the moment they do hear someone voice the speculative nature of said claims, the aforementioned morons hear "OMG science deboonked!"
The same can be said about well established shit as well. They don't understand why a particular theory is so well established because science communication on the matter is garbage. So they hear one guy point something out that typically doesn't make it into the headlines and suddenly people think an ape bone found somewhere in Anatolia disproves Out of Africa.
