I need a cheap turbomolecular pump and controller for a project, however all the pumps I see on ebay do not come with a controller. Are there open source/DIY controller options out there? Most pumps are too small or busted to begin with.
What the FUCK do I do here

Also I guess I could do a diffusion pump but I'm worried about contaminants + the oil is expensive

Just buy the controller on eBay. There are plenty of cheap used controllers for the Turbo-V250

>turbopump

Unless you need a ridiculously good vacuum you don't need a turbo or diffusion pump, or even a higher end rotary vane pump. For most DIY projects you can get away with a shitty little low end pump from like harbor freight or menards.

What's the project?

Oof, yeah that kind of needs the low pressure. Have you tried looking through university surplus sales?
