Unfortunately not in a direct sense. Spiritual gurus like Alan Watts talked about this when he criticized environmentalism in the 60's and 70's. There's a similar theme in the story of the Final Fantasy 7 videogame. Recent skeptics who are environmentalists themselves like Bjorn Lomborg also present a similar view.
