I think mind is the only substrate of the universe and that the consciousness you have is the same consciousness of everything else. Consciousness doesn't depend on the brain. Egoic personal consciousness does as the brain does the filtration and boundary formation of the grand consciousness. So in a way life is like a cancer in that grand universal consciousness which is God. Everything happens within it. It's everything. Its the awareness and observed. When you die you go through the most insane consciousness expanding event, probably. That's what I believe at least. I don't think grand consciousness is metacognitive. The laws of physics are the patterns of this grand consciousness that we have managed to observe and apply.
