That's essentially what highrise residential buildings are. You can argue density but that's offset by height.

it's extremely expensive but you can do stuff like that in a city if you enjoy corruption

Design makes no sense. You have extremely, extremely heavy slabs of concrete with dirty and soil and buildings on top supported by a single column located in the corner of each square. The middle square has no visible support column at all for the 2nd and 3rd level.

Vertical suburbs?
You mean terraces?

Floor plates are the heaviest component in skyscraper. elevation pretty much kills vehicle access.
The only thing apartments lacks is public space and semipublic place like front yard that one can dwell in and be seen. Walkway is too narrow for any social interaction other than "let me through"

the shadow that thing would cast would fuck with everyone around it. plus your pillars would have to be made of unobtanium. also how is transit gonna work? this thing is a civil engineering nightmare. even if you COULD build it, it would cost hundreds of billions of dollars just from material alone.

too bad most high rise buildings are designed like shit. The architect could design a small town contained within a building but no they just do commie blocks

No, it'll block out the sun on the lower levels and that's bad for people's mental health and vitamin D levels, the only solution would be to install huge sunlamps that would drain a huge amount of electricity

One earthquake. One thing to knock the bottom pillars down. Ita over. An entire city falls. If one floor collapses so does the one below it. Evacuations. It blocks sunlight. If one of the pillars gets bombed on the bottom, say goodnight.
Litrering. If residents accidentally or purposfully dug holes through the floor of one level to drop things on other residents.

The people are stupid enough to fall off. The sided will attract a lot of people as looking down will be an attraction. What about rain? Will it only rain on the top floor?

I'm a 115 iq and even I can poke holes in it the second I apply any ounce of critical thought.

Would have to be very large, manufactured perfectly and would no doubt be extremely expensive

The simplest and cheapest solution is just to build suburbs and towns at ground level like we always have

No, you could just have many. They just need to reflect adequate light, they don't need to perfectly reflect every bit of light.

>good idea
yeah sure. maybe go with a more vertical layout, with the lots of a more hexagonal shape. and spinning, to get equal sun intervals. also bioengineer the residents into small ovoid creatures, with tentacles. that oughta do it.

You don't. Pneumatic tube delivers food to your house. Houses are separated by a large gap. You stay in the pod and do the work on the screen, or else, no more food in tube.

There is so much open space in the west there is no need to high density housing, we simply need central planning to spread out from cities.
The free market won't spread out from cities because city development provides the highest ROI.

Sounds like a nightmare for traffic. Also I don't really see the point in having roads for anything above the ground floor, you'd have to make and maintain very expensive car elevators or whatever.
