We're talking about how much the sample population correlates with the actual population, which means you want a sample size that can accurately pick up the phenomena you intend to measure in the population. Using a sample size of 90 people in an experiment that in theory should apply to millions of people is not even close to acceptable. Even election surveys over phones have some massive problems studying thousands of people measuring a similar population.

That's why the sample size of the experimental population becomes very important since it's not representative of the general public and it isn't even close to monitoring or approximating bio-social phenomenaa you could match on an scale larger than maybe a county with a small population

Most suicide "attempts" fail from one of 2 reasons
1) backing out at the last second (for example leaning into a rope until almost losing consciousness then getting startled and standing back up) imo this counts as an actual attempt. Arguably something like putting a gun in your mouth or your neck on a train track or standing on a tall ledge could be either considered an "attempt" or probably more just "intense ideation ". I think it's somewhat intention based. Ultimately each of these represent the intention of ending your own life, and most things with humans it's more about slowly getting more comfortable with an idea before fully doing it. Someone who did these things once or even twice is far, far more likely to actually go to completion on their next "attempt".

2) not being committed to begin with and choosing a method that isn't likely to be successful to begin with. (Taking a bunch of Tylenol or some shit but also being somewhere that you're highly likely to be found shortly, for example). Up to you if you consider this a "suicide attempt". This is a bit difficult on the edges because you could have the exact same situation but say with a high dose of fentanyl instead, which is far more likely to be fatal and in a short time frame too. But let's say the sufferer sits in their family living room minutes before they know their family will be arriving home, and then doses a bunch of fent. Without intervention/being narcanned that person will probably die, but also there's very high chance someone will arrive and contact emergency services to revive them. Does this count as an "attempt"? It's certainly a more fatal method. It just depends I think. On the other end even Tylenol can kill you through acetaminophen destroying your liver, but it's a lot slower and more painful which drastically increases chances that the victim will ultimately contact help themselves even if no one else finds them.
