>Want to do plant tissue culture
>There's a substance called 2,4-D that's really good for dedifferentiating plant tissue so it can be grown into other stuff
>Almost every researcher uses it
>It's not illegal or anything
>Look for it, hoping to get some
>Freakishly expensive
>Not available at any hobby distributors
>What few distributors sell it only sell to labs
My dream died before it began.

do you need the pure form? i see it sold as weed killer. synthesis looks easy but of course the reagents for that are probably going to be hard to get as well because... reasons

I need it to be as close to the pure form as possible. I'm not skilled enough to extract it from the other substances it's with in weed killers. It's weird how the weed killers containing 2,4-D are so cheap and yet 2,4-D alone is so expensive.

probably a logistical thing. there is almost no demand for the pure chemical, so they don't store it and immediately send it off to the factories making consumer blends. same reason why green coffee is expensive compared to roasted beans
