I signed up for the official IQ test because I wanted to prisonrape my college friends in it.
I got 43/45 and they got like 37 and 35, and a week later I got an email about joining MENSA as a member
They have "interest groups" about medicine (I just got my MD) and career development, but I have no idea what they do in those.
Is there any actual networking benefit or personal development chance in joining the community,
or is it just smug assholes side-eyeing each other and nesting smaller social circles?
I signed up for the remainder of the year so that I can give the certificate to my professor mom and make her proud of her bloodline. But other than that I get the impression I just paid a premium goy tax.
What am I in for? Any active members here that can give their perspective?

Also, OP here, do you put this kind of stuff in your CV or are people gonna shit themselves laughing? thx in advance

I was a Mensa test taker as a kid that spoke with people in the S.I clubs years ago.

There are two types of Mensa members:
>curious to learn and socialize, probe you constantly for information that they think might be relevant to a pertinent issue at hand
and
>extremely condescending, belligerent in arguments, constantly trying to "win", brag about the score they got repeatedly, unironically refer to outsiders as people who are inferior

I would say that in general, the second type is more common amongst older members. I cannot tell the difference between the second type and an argument here apart from the slightly higher vocabulary that the mensa-tards use to try to scare you into thinking that they are right. The cognitive biases are still the same.

You should curate who you discuss with. The chance of being the first or second type of Mensan is a complete coin-flip. If you want socialization, then sure, if your workplace doesn't offer anything. If you already feel good at your workplace and/or your current social group, and/or you want to "debate", don't even bother.

I left Mensa because there are a ton of cliquey assholes and it wasn't worth it for me. I'm a current MD student as well. The people in my cohort are more intelligent than the average Mensa member

Tbh I got really bad vibes even from most examinees in the test center(as in condescending mentally ill chudcel), I think I'll just try meeting people from my field, opening doors and all that,
but I'll keep my expectations low when it comes to making friends (I don't expect to see a single woman there). Thanks for sharing
