calendars were mainly important to agrarian societies that depended in seasons for growing and hunting etc.
once industrialization kicked in, and the global market could be traveled in a day. we relied more on more objective measures of time keeping so they based time on the decay of some atom and just related it to the calendar becuase all of society had been running on that schedule.
its why alot of work happens before sunrise and sunset. they talk about how classically people slept from sundown to midnight to do some household chores by candle light.
then go to sleep at 4 and wake up at sunrise.
they blame it on soceities dependance on artificial lighting.

I have wondered this before and I suspect during kali yuga the ecliptic is warped to a harmonic that is not on the factor 9 scale. I imagine when the yuga changes 24 hours will match 360 degrees again
