Does this make sense?

Yeah, human chromosome 2 being the result of fusion between two ancestral chromosomes is famous. Do you have any questions?

Completely.

Yes, but I've heard it claimed that this fusion site is highly unusual and that it is highly unlikely to have occurred in a natural setting. I've never heard a counter argument to this claim.

I remember when the chromosomes fused. My grandpa was an ape but my dad was fully human. Felt unlikely by ancestry but thats what mutations do

The "counter argument" is the original argument is just pulled out of someone's ass and does not warrant rebuttal.

same, I have fond memories of my grandmother coming down from climbing trees, her long hairy tail clasping a bundle of bananas. mother would make banana bread and grandpa would tell us stories of the one time he and some other apes overthrew the government.

good times.

how did the first person to carry this new chromosome reproduce? Did they have an uneven number of chromosomes?

I tried to ask chat gpt but it was clearly just vomiting wrong garbage
