Why do people say body types are not a real thing?

Ofc they're real, only a fool would deny that. It's only called pseudoscience because historically it was linked to bunk psychology and behavior claims.

Because the existence of short people who aren't built like Neanderthals and 90's John Goodman greatly deteriorate its validity as a scale. Look at these people, the greater majority of them don't fall even remotely in line with any of those body types. That's not to say those body types don't exist.

'Types' are just an instance of man made categories. Just another means for people to categorize things to make thinking and speaking about them easier. Like all other categories with varying degree of precission and success as a concept.

Are they good categries? Depends on the context, for general observations: Sure. It's like nigger. Try to explain who stole the TV to police.
