Why won't this work?

Because Metal Plate is pulling the magnets down at the same time

It does work. But it becomes an engineering question to create a strong enough electromagnet and metal plate to lift your body.

limiting factor is holding the magnets up.

the magnets pull you down with the same force that they pull the plate up that negates any motion

If enough electromagnetic force is generated to counteract gravity then yes it works. It is how electromagnetic crane lifts function in scrap yards.

It's because of >>16760267 which you can only solve by making the magnetic field time-varying, which in turns requires you to move the magnet or to use an electromagnet. Congrats, that energy is now being used to propel you upwards.

this is easily solved by classical mechanics

every action has an equal and opposite reaction, there is no thrust because the apparatus is holding onto both vectors. the magnets want to accelerate towards the floor as much as the base plate wants to accelerate towards the magnets

the best anyone could do is convert the stress of fixating the magnets into electricity, otherwise the system is in equilibrium

Yes, classical magnetic force does no work

you need to freeze the magnets first

It does, but you have to start doing shrugs during puberty while on steroids and eating like 9 meals per day. This is WITHOUT training any other muscles so that all of your gains go to your traps and forearms without any other muscles adding detrimental mass in order to hold onto the magnets. You'll look like a freak all to soar through the skies at a mind boggling 0.8kmph after 20 years of abusing roids.

It can push you up.
>develop immensely jacked up upper body
>replace horseshoe magnets with strong electromagnets
>pulse massive current into the electromagnets
>metal plate develops strong eddy currents
>plate and magnets repel each other
>your body gains some pulse of acceleration upwards

Because life would be too cool and magical if it worked. Cool things, like levitation, should be rare and unachievable.
