What is science behind being funny?

novel or unusual or embarrassing event makes monkeys feel gay

probably has something to do with forming neuron pathways, also hence why people on psychedelic drugs laugh so much

Is humor exclusive to humans, or are there any other animals that can "laugh"

Laughter is a response to threat without danger
Tickling is attacking someone's vulnerable spots without intent to cause harm
Jokes set up an expectation then suddenly violate it
Pranks are physical traps but without the pain

Sometimes "jokes" are used to present opinions the Group may disapprove of without committing to it. This is not the same as a real joke and the confusion is deliberate. "I was just joking bro don't take it so seriously"

Jokes, pranks and such can also go wrong when the target actually feels like they're in danger as a result, they're not going to laugh when they feel that their ego or health is actually threatened

You ever noticed how men are order of magnitude more funny on average, but women on the other hand are very receptive to being entertained with humor by men? Being funny is something women generally consider to be a very desirable trait in a potential partner, while men typically consider humor to be a virtue in itself.

The hypothesis i find most plausible is that humor evolved as a way for men to display intelligence and problem solving capacity to compete for female attention in a way that also doubles as a way to create social bonds. If you ever stop to think about it, the fundamental aspect of humor is breaking expectations by recognizing an established pattern, then purposefully going against it in a surprising way. To be consistently funny one needs good pattern recognition and ability, then the added ability to quickly modify said patterns in a spontaneous manner, there is also a social intelligence component to it because you need to judge if the other person has the capacity to get the joke themselves. To put it simply, from a woman's perspective, being funny signals that a man at the very least not a total fucking drooling retard, which correlates pretty strongly with the ability to provide at a level that is at least good enough. If you're unfunny, that's a big red flag.

Evolutionary speaking, it's for signalling that something is just play and not real and you wont be killing eachother today

We learn things, with that knwoledge we can build machines like the pc you're using to post your blabbering.
So yes, from that point of view science is useless.

Being funny is about being an icon of relief.

Best explanation I've seen of what humor is, is the capability of spotting bs.
This is why comedian-read news works so well.

This. Humor evolved as a way for men to display an agile mind and intelligence to others. For women, it is attractive because the trait will be passed on to offspring. For men, it shows the ability to think quickly and problem solve against threats and/or help build society.

being funny was invented by cavemen to impress cavewomen. basically its a way for ugly guys to hack the system and get laid.

We just don't know.

Humor is the method through which intellect is passed on through the human gene pool. Being witty is one of the few ways of demonstrating your cognitive abilities that is seen as attractive to both genders (for the most part).

Laughing is ultimately about power. A man slip on a banana peel and the crowd laugh. Why? Because he's suffering and we're not.

I've met female bodybuilders that can squat over 3pl8 which is my PR, does that also mean there is no strength difference or attraction to it between the sexes on average?
