Is 'shame culture' an evolutionary adaptation to overpopulation?

Humans haven't evolved in tens of thousands of years.

It's just a blip on the historical radar as humanity is suddenly thrust from world where personal privacy is the norm to a world where fucking nothing is private anymore and there's ten cameras up your asshole 24/7.

No, shame is one of the mechanisms by which culture controls individuals
If anything, the current globalist culture is drifting against shame. In the modern world reputation and social bonds are mostly irrelevant so there is no incentive to feel shame, and resources are so abundant that a few rogue elements don't matter

1000years is roughly 40generations. 20.000years is roughly 800 generations. A timespan where evolutional changes can happen.
But i agree, genetical changes in the last 20.000 years are really small in humans.

I would disagree to some point because the majority of humans don't life in first world countrys.
But you're right when we only look at first world countrys.

I never saw a person that was not affected by shame, to some degree. Maybe not everyone, a psychopath i once knew seemed to respond only to fear, like he would be very polite to armed police officers arresting him.
Whats the angle here, being controlled more by shame, fear or guilt?
Psychos are controlled by fear 100%, i think almost everyone is as its very primal. Then would come shame and then the most moral peoples would fear guilt, their own judgment of themselves. Those people dont need others to police them.
Because of this, i say shame culture is the baseline for having a civilization, you cant have that with control based on fear, its too animalistic.

Doesn't seem to correlate with overpopulation. In Africa the more "shame" based honour systems aren't corelated to the most overpopulated countries (Nigeria, Egypt) compared with less populated societies.

Yeah this map correlates with what i said. Shame is the basic building stone of civilization, but guilt is more advanced as its like feeling shame of yourself and you can police yourself. Typical scumbag societies of scammers and two-faced people that lie to your face only work if you catch people, they dont feel any internal pressure to act nicely unless someone else polices their actions. The more brutal ones are controlled by fear, which is like places where they cut off your hands for not showing respect to the right person. Japan used to be like that btw.

No. Population has nothing to do with it. India is overpopulated and they largely have no sense of shame at all. It tends to be in areas with a lot of competition. Having to be the best to reach X and if you fail then you're basically gonna live as a pauper begging in the streets or working a rice field for 20 hours a day. In a lot of Asian countries competition is very high and the people are pretty cutthroat. Having exams for everything, a large focus on legalisms (Confucianism) that emphasize uncompromising adherence to a doctrine, etc. So they are just used to a culture where you NEED to live up to what people expect of you and to not do so means you're inferior and so marks you with a social stigma.

this map correlates with HDI more than anything else. so education and life expectancy are probably the main factors.
