Depends, do you want a logical or emotional answer?
Logically, the universe is indifferent, and no matter what you do, all the alternate timelines will still exist and be felt by the Universe. e.g. if you "save the children", then the timeline where they are not saved is also experienced.
But emotionally, beyond the basic ethics type answer, how treat the universe good?
become who you are meant to be, then your happiness will validate the universe and everything in it,

there is one universe, yes ofc, but the one and the many go together, nirvana is samsara, specifically, the one contains the many (and maybe many contains the one, if you like).
I'm saying if you choose one path, the universe experiences that- but also the other paths that alternate versions of you chose. So regardless of what you choose, EVERYTHING happens and is experienced.
