PhD is like a cheatcode to life
PhDs open so many doors in life, it's like a complete cheat code. There's so many things you cannot do without a PhD.

There are plenty of things you cannot do WITH a PhD.

PhD opens up a lot of opportunities, but closes many others. From my experience it was much harder to get into industry compared to others in my cohort who got out after an MS.

I didnt even get my bachelors because I got so hooked on partying and drugs I stopped waking up to go to class and it became a vicious cycle. then I did it all over again at a second college.

but I still like to come here and LARP that Im educated and intelligent because I still love physics and astronomy :(

you're suffering from success

Lots of them. People see PhD and assume you will A) be a smug twat who is unpleasant to work with and will B) are just looking for a temporary position and will ditch for something better at the first opportunity and C) means you are older than any of your prospective rivals with the same level of industry experience

>are just looking for a temporary position and will ditch for something better at the first opportunity
this is typical overqualification fear and I don't understand this behavior

What is there not to understand, from either side
>Employee has qualifications which typically facilitate getting job B at double the salary of job A. Employee would be a fool not to take job B if the opportunity arises
>Employer has to invest in paying every new employee for training/adjustment period of X months before becoming profitable. Employer would be a fool not to preferentially hire those employees they know have no other options so are more likely to stay for years, thus maximising training investment to productive return

What do you think about a PhD at a third class university even though your masters was from a first class university just because the job market has become shit now?

pretty much. when it comes to careers the highest level degree is gonna get picked over the others.
I've tried for a lot of entry level jobs that just want a bachelor degree at minimum, and would see that they hired a person with a masters degree.
