If you want a real answer, there's two parts. The first part is that we basically understand nothing about medicine outside of a few very specific families of ailments that we understand very well. As soon as you end up even slightly outside of that box, your doctor is basically just guessing and checking.

The second part is that there's a lot of relationships between negative emotions and the worsening of physical symptoms. As an example, if you have a nociceptive pain disorders (e.g., osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis), there is very strong evidence that anxiety and depression symptoms will worsen those diseases. We understand basically nothing about why this happens. Women tend to have more negative emotions, and as a result a lot of conditions which might be latent but otherwise unimportant can rise to the surface of she has significant mental health problems.

I'm not a doctor, but I have done a decent amount of work in medical research on the engineering side. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis have nebulous causes in many cases and are two of the most common "ideopathic" pain disorders.

Do you know how doctors know that osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are not just made-up whole cloth? You can literally see the damage they cause on x-rays. If you have either of these forms of arthritis, and you don't do any sort of treatment, you will grind your own joints to dust and eventually need major replacement surgeries.
