You probably finished your master with mediocre to good results, didn't write a master's thesis on something that would easily lend itself to other research projects and that may be of little interest to other professionals.
You can't cope with it because there's nothing to cope with. You're a surplus, not the top 20 % or so which can go on to realistically enter PhD programs. Universities can only employ so many PhD students and they're already underpaid to the point where many of them will have to take on loans.
Upon completion of your PhD, your chances of finding suitable and stable work as a post-doc are just as grim with again, maybe 20 % of all PhD holders realistically entering the academic force. I've seen that a couple of times, already. Some few will, like magic, escape mediocrity by actually landing positions such as assistance professor etc. but most are effectively locked into mere assistant research positions.
