I have come to believe that it is impossible for fantasy to be great without deep moral conviction from its creator underlying it. Tolkien had a deep moral conviction, as did Gene Wolfe, everyone who made great fantasy. Miyazaki doesn't have this.
Miyazaki doesn't have any moral reason to uphold Ranni, he's not making any kind of statement by glossing over her assassination or the plague she unleashed on the world. He has nothing to say about the necessity of schemers and murderers serving the greater good or anything like that. She was almost certainly chosen as the Mary Sue because she had the cutest concept art of any of the demigods and Miyazaki wanted to worship her, so we were all subjected to his fetishes.
The more time I spend with Elden Ring's world, the more I've come to realize I deeply hate Miyazaki's style. It's slop for people who think they're too good for slop.
