They've been in Norvrant for a couple years so them knowing that isn't much of a leap imo.

They're gendered. Noraxia (the one that Livia kills) was a female, and the elder is male. If nothing else, this should've tipped me off that the pixies were weird when even the cabbages have males and females.
The dragons are a good point, and imo a good use of legitimate genderlessness.
Middy is obviously male in all presentation, but it was his clutch of eggs that he brought to Hydaelyn. And it also explains how a single family could eventually populate the star.
