yea levant is an open plain but the zagros mountain range is nothing but a deathtrap. trying to cross that range on foot is as dangerous as it ever was. they have their northern flank held by russia.
unless russia turns on them like they did on 1943 they are very well protected.

their only option is to bomb the population into submission for them to revolt.
