Consider this:
If you want ANY help from the military to "make better movie/game" you have to make a contract with them about making them look good.
That's it.

But they probably also cater to a very fanatic fanbase who will talk shit of the game if its weapon aren't 1:1 replica of real weapon so they know it work.

If you didn't intend to make a realishtic game in the first place, I've never heard a player be resistant to the idea.
Players don't buy those game only because they barely make them.
