No one is saying you can't enjoy parry mechanics but the use of the word "inflated" was intentional. It's not that parrying doesn't take skill but it makes people believe that they have much higher skill than they really do when rote memorization is one of the easiest and simplest "skill" to learn in a video game right next to "reactions".

This is why people who have spent a lot of time playing real action games, which ask the player to not just have reactions and to learn enemy patterns but it asks you to take initiative and to come up with and learn strategies to deal with situations and to do so on the fly. These newer games that have a focus on parry take away strategy when the majority of them dumb down the game to this "your turn my turn" style of defense = parry and then after the enemies attacks are over it's your turn and you do your attacks which always start off in the same position until the enemy does an action.

Movement and spacing become a lost art. Timing becomes warped into a rhythm game.
