Life is great. Without it you’d be dead. Life is really beautiful. Full of wonder and illusion. Likewise climate induced famine, state failure, and armed conflict. Broken bones, dead dogs, and lonely homes. First bit is stolen from gummo. The future is an increasingly harsh place for children in my opinion. I don’t want that to be true, but that isn’t really up to me. I think people in general over estimate control over their kids. I have worked with kids a bit but mostly young men 17-20. The paths branch strangely. I think this also colors my view.

Going even further than that. I think there were probably strong selective pressure for non reproductive behavior in early hominids. Group selection vs individual selection. I think you’re right on the behavior control bit. For people who believe in eternal punishment I get the vitriol, but most of the people I meat who really really hate gay and trans people are secular. I think its just because Im 26 and people my age aren’t generally religious where I live.
