>Make Chara a good person when the game tells you multiple times
Care to list because the closest the game does this is with Asriel (1). I do agree Toby was messy with Chara in balancing them as a character and meta-device but believe Narra-chara does the best it can do. And a few things are best left unanswered in terms of the writer (leave it to your imagination to what could cause a kid to be suicidal).

Of which I don't think his line is to be taken at face value. The main idea was likely a perspective change, "not the greatest person" doesn't mean Chara was the child of the Columbine duo. Before (you) Asriel thought the world of Chara, they were "Best Friends Forever" if nothing else even if never referred to them as... whatever they/them equivalent of brother/sister would've been. Chara did convince them to go with the plan until it changed (1.1)

I do know he mentions Chara wanted to kill the village. I now ask you when Chara changed plans because Chara fucking died twice, not once. And we know that Asriel turned tail at the 13th hour. What's the odds Asriel turned back once Chara was screaming to fight back against them so that they weren't dying in vain? (also noting its insane that a monster's will was able to outpace a human at peak fight/flight moment in the fusion)
>Reminder that UT and DR are written by Toby Fox
And Toby doesn't make 100% willingly evil characters when it came to UT/DR, don't know for Homestuck. Flowey has some sympathy despite his floor being repeated genocide and King from Ch1 got his edges sanded out by Ch2. Chara's narrated laughing was 100% meant to be taken as an uncomfortable laugh ("Oof" for a zoomer equivalent), buttercups or otherwise. And yes, this 100% applies to Carol too, she'll have a sympathy point or two in Ch5-6. Doesn't change she probably did wrong shit but more grey than black and white because she had that which paves Hell (good intentions).
