It's a timeless classic.
I highly recommend starting with the OG 1998 version of HL1. Amazing game, the speed and variety will make any Call Of Halo feel like a snail-pace toddler slop, and after you're done with the main game + expansions, you got unironically thousands of great mods (total conversions) to try out.

And naturally witnessing the insane technological leap when jumping from a late-90s to an early-00's game is a sight to behold as well.
