Yeah, actually, I agree with all this. Verso isn't necessarily suicidal... he's been beaten down, is on life support and wants to pull the plug. But Maelle doesn't make that distinction. She thinks it's her job to save him, even if he protests. And she has the power to do it. At least, that's what she believes.
It actually feels more like a discussion about suicide (Maelle's PoV) vs. euthanasia (Verso's PoV).
Maelle thinks she's prevented a suicide. Verso feels like he's forcibly hooked up to life support like Terri Schiavo.
And hell, maybe Maelle is right? Maybe Verso could be saved? I think they should have made that more ambiguous. Just like how Alicia COULD live a better live in the real world and learn to overcome what she lost in the fire. Verso COULD learn to love his life again in the canvas as well.
But then again, "everyone is a hypocrite," so it's unlikely they'd ever find a compromise.
Ultimately, I think the tone of that final scene with Verso, the piano, and the jumpscare into Maelle's fucked up face just really gave a lot of people the impression that this was some kind of horror torture scenario in which Maelle was the mastermind. So really, I think it was a failure of that scene to communicate what the writer intended.
At least the Verso ending was 10/10. Even of Lune, Sciel, and the others were basically betrayed, murdered, and wiped from existence against their will.
