A lot of the work comes from the improved shepherd/herder gathering rates, on top of the advantages pastures already provide (no mill required, cheaper per villager, space, minimal movement) - but these combined with the military bonuses essentially triple-up Scouts while still being able to produce Spearmen and Skirmishers faster too. Then in Castle, it's Heavy Cav Archers or +4 Fire Lancers, a lack of Bloodlines isn't holding Khitans back at all.
