May and Ash are heading towards Petalburg city!
May doesn't see Pokemon as intelligent creatures that can bond deeply with their trainers. Not that she underestimates them. It's just that she doesn't really have experience with Pokemon and thus doesn't know their capabilities. Wonder if she only saw them as fighting roosters because of her dad being a gym leader. Eh, is this a product of Norman only owning the Slaking family?
Yet, this episode she's already showing traits of being a responsible trainer. When power goes off in a Pokemon Center that's taking care of her Torchic, she's proactive in helping Ash turn the emergency generator.
She also doesn't really want Ash to know that the gym leader of Petalburg is her dad...?

Yeah, it was really a transactional decision. 'Your Pikachu burned my bike, so the least you can do is bring me home safe'.
