He was a decent enough concept that unfortunately was clearly handed off to a writer (Stanley) who has absolutely zero interest in his kind of tone. I just wish she had the sense to fucking SHELF him in case another writer in the future actually wanted to use him instead of just having her lesbian squad + uwuver jump him outside the local 7/11 for a power of friendship moment. She's a myopic hack of a writer. Archie writers at least just didnt bother with characters they weren't into. They obviously had to know they weren't the only people who would ever write for sonic, and just leave shit for other people.
In a just world, being a known shipfag would be an automatic disqualification from a lead writer role to avoid situations like this. Mimic, and the smoldering remains of Whisper as a legitimate character, were wasted on Stanley.
