>How many do you guys usually attempt, surely not too many right?
If I don't have anything better to do that turn, I run a G1. If I have a double rainbow or better, I'll train. If not, I'll race.
>How do I ensure I have the stats to win the race if it's a year 1 or 2 race
Futurity Stakes/Juvenile Fillies/Hopeful Stakes, you run your best strategy and hope for the best. Then there's nothing to run until after your first Inspiration. Ideally, you have really good parents who can give you the stats to carry you through the early and mid game. It's okay to sacrifice some friendship farming to get the stats you need to win, too.
>What kind of umas are best for that kind of spark hunting anyways?
Anyone with +20% to Speed is going to get such massive benefits from training that you're likely to win most of your races. Front Runners and Pace Chasers are least likely to get fucked up the ass by RNG. Anything Medium or below, you can run 4 Speed + 2 Power with Stamina inheritance. For Long runners, you run 4 Speed + 2 Stamina with Power inheritance. Those are just suggestions, experiment to find what's right for you.
A majority of the double stat G1 races are Mile races, with some Dirt Races and Mediums thrown in. Oguri has a good unique inheritance and can run all these tracks, so yeah, she's good. Maruzensky with the right inheritances can run all of them, too. Smart Falcon will also be able to run all of them, and is a Front Runner who is least likely to get dicked by bad luck.
