3/4 of the examples you mentioned are (also) typical for western media though. I think the fact that you dislike the art direction a lot of Jap media aims for is the core element of why you dislike it.
I have the same thing with huge bulky power armor as seen in Warhammer 40K or Fallout. It also turns me off a little and makes me less interested in the thing as a whole.
