could you imagine apple or microsoft making some huge api change or something, and it still being incomplete (wayland works on two (2) desktop environments) after 17 years development?
apple has switched architectures twice, microsoft switched from dos to nt. in linux: pulseaudio to pipewire, sysvinit to systemd
