Like I said, like Aerith but better. A real teenage girl with real personality and flaws, not just a magical Mary Sue pick me. But at the same time fulfills a very similar role in the storyline as the innocent female martyr deus ex machina ancient majokko. But instead of being a fantasy about "the perfect trad waifu" who gets taken from you and teaches you about loss in a profound way, Vanille is more of just a flawed, broken, sad little girl whose been trapped in a cursed fate. She lies and runs away from herself, and wants so badly to just be happy.

I'm not one to wax poetic too much about Vanille, but there's another poster somewhere around here that can do that job much better than me. Perhaps he will arrive if we post enough Vanille and he can talk about her some more.
