This is a very dishonest argument.
WoW population has been much lower historically.
It is known that sub numbers increase with expansion/new seasons and decrease after ~2 months of no new content.
Blizzard realized that some realms would only remain alive for a few weeks, and then they would die until new content released. They realized that players kept migrating to populated realms, making them even more bloated while low population realms kept getting more and more empty.
It was always the logical solution and the biggest QoL easily. And it is not linked to any record deficit of players.
The grim truth that /v/ refuses to accept is that according to official sub numbers the game is fine. Same as it has always been: ~7m subscribers and over 1m unique daily players.
